Emphasizes the basic economic concepts underlying general-purpose external financial statements and the uses of this information by producers and consumers.

An issues-oriented practical guide to introductory economics. Through examination of contemporary social issues and problems, a framework of economic analysis is developed. Topics such as world poverty and development, discrimination, pollution, monopoly power, unemployment, international trade, taxes, global competition, and social security are covered. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to view current events with an economic understanding of the issues involved. Designed for non-business students: not open to students with credit or concurrent enrollment in ECON 200 Principles of Microeconomics or above.

Principles of art from a non-chronological, multicultural perspective. Emphasis on differing roles the artist plays in diverse societies, on parallels across the arts, and on the analysis of art objects as items of material culture.

Design of art objects as related to problem solving processes and creative thinking. Art ideas, techniques, and media through studio experiences. Media will vary. For Non-Art Majors.

Studio practice exploring craft forms, materials, and processes in areas such as jewelry/metals arts, fiber/textile arts, paper/book arts, and woodcraft. The history of crafts and the relationship between contemporary crafts and the fine arts will be studied.

Studio practice exploring basic jewelry and metalsmithing techniques used to form nonferrous metals such as brass, copper, and silver. Students will apply techniques in the design and creation of primarily metal jewelry. The history of jewelry and the relationship between contemporary art jewelry and the fine arts will be studied.

Studio experiences in processes, media, and techniques used in the art of drawing. Gesture, shape, value, line, color, composition, and spatial illusion are explored as a means toward developing skill and individual expression.

Concepts, methods, techniques and studio experiences in hand building and throwing ceramic forms on the potter?s wheel. Introduction to sculptural and functional uses of clay. Includes lectures on clay, glazes, loading and firing kilns.

Studio experience examining the technical questions and formal issues that arise at the beginning level. Exploration of how an artist organizes elements in a visual field to make a dynamic, coherent and paintable composition in direct painting techniques. Studio Practicum supplemented with lecture and critique.

The history of world art from Paleolithic times through the late twelfth century. Contributions of various cultures to world civilization. Emphasis on social context and parallels between arts, literature, and the history of ideas. Writing to learn course. Fall only.

Introductory survey of concepts and theories relevant to understanding visual art.

Designed to acquaint the student with the fundamental principles and processes of life as found in animals and plants and their relation to the everyday life of man. Corequisite: BIOL 112 General Biology Laboratory.

Laboratory exercises to accompany BIOL 111 General Biology. Corequisite: BIOL 111 General Biology.

A basic ecological approach to the principles and processes of life with emphasis placed on human pressures and technology, and the effect of these on the organism-environment complex. Laboratory exercises accompany lecture. Not applicable toward a biology major.

Survey of introductory chemical principles and properties of common materials. Topics include gases, crystalline solids, solutions, energy, polymers, organic compounds and biomolecules. Principles, techniques, and criteria for viewing, enjoying, and evaluating the performing arts, including live theatre performance, film, video/audio tape, and dance.

Introduction to the field of performance studies. Content includes the study of theories of human play, forms of social and artistic role play, and the origins of human performance.

An introductory course designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of interpersonal, public, and group communication, and an opportunity to improve oral communication skills. Both semesters. Prerequisite: ENGL 101 or 103 English Composition or equivalent, or permission of instructor.

This course is designed to introduce students to educational technology, current research on critical issues and trends within the field, and how to effectively integrate educational technology into the P-12 classroom and curriculum. Students will explore and demonstrate how educational technology can enhance personal and professional productivity and support teaching and learning in a 21st Century learning environment. This course meets a General Education Elective requirement for all students.
